HIPAA COMPLIANCE

Important: So Know is an educational platform and should never be used to store, transmit, or discuss actual patient information.

1. HIPAA Overview

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) establishes national standards to protect sensitive patient health information from being disclosed without the patient's consent or knowledge.

2. No Patient Information

You must NEVER share or discuss on So Know:

  • Patient names, dates of birth, or contact information
  • Medical record numbers or health plan numbers
  • Account numbers or device identifiers
  • Ultrasound images containing patient identifiers
  • Any other Protected Health Information (PHI)

3. Your Responsibilities

As a user, you agree to:

  • Use So Know solely for educational purposes
  • Never upload or share any PHI or patient-identifiable information
  • Maintain the confidentiality of any patient information learned in clinical settings
  • Report any suspected HIPAA violations immediately

4. Educational Content Only

All case studies, images, and scenarios provided in So Know are fictional and created for educational purposes. Any resemblance to actual patients is purely coincidental.

5. De-identification

If you wish to share learning experiences based on clinical encounters, you must completely de-identify all information by removing all 18 HIPAA identifiers and ensuring the information cannot be linked back to any individual.

6. Reporting Violations

If you encounter any content that may contain PHI or violate HIPAA regulations, please report it immediately through the app's reporting feature. We take all violations seriously and will investigate promptly.

7. Consequences

Violations of HIPAA regulations or sharing of PHI on So Know may result in immediate account suspension or termination. HIPAA violations can also lead to significant legal penalties, including fines and potential criminal charges.

8. Professional Duty

As healthcare professionals and students, protecting patient privacy is not just a legal requirement but an ethical obligation. By using So Know, you commit to upholding these standards at all times.> ⚠️ Critical Reminder: When in doubt about what constitutes PHI or whether information can be shared, DO NOT share it. Patient privacy must always be your top priority.Last Updated: December 13, 2025© 2025 Spectra Ultrasound Services LLC. All rights reserved.
